Privacy policy

What this site collects, what it does not, and who else is involved when you use it.

What we collect directly

Living Room Central has no accounts and no newsletter. The one place it asks you for anything is the comment form, described below.

Comments

Reviews accept comments. If you leave one, the name, email address and comment text you enter are stored with it, along with your IP address and browser user-agent string, which WordPress records to help detect spam. Your email address is not published. An anonymised hash of it may be sent to the Gravatar service to check whether you have a profile picture there; Gravatar’s privacy policy governs that lookup. Comments are held for moderation and a comment can be deleted on request.

Server logs

Our hosting provider records standard web server logs: the page requested, the time, a browser user-agent string, and an IP address. These keep the site running and identify abuse. We do not use them to build profiles.

Amazon links

Links to Amazon carry an affiliate tag identifying this site as the referrer. Amazon’s own privacy policy governs everything that happens once you follow one. We receive aggregate reporting on clicks and purchases — never the identity of the person who made them.

Cookies

This site sets no advertising cookies. If you leave a comment you can opt to have your name and email remembered for next time, which is a cookie set only when you ask for it. Amazon may set its own cookies when you follow a link there, including the one that attributes a purchase to this site.

Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets cookies and sends Google an event containing your IP address, the page you are on, and technical details of your browser. We use it in aggregate, but the data goes to Google and Google’s privacy policy governs it there.

Advertising

There is no advertising network on this site. No ad is served, no advertising cookie is set, and no ad network receives anything about your visit. Should that change, this section will say so — it is generated from the site’s configuration, not written by hand.

Third parties

Google Analytics, described above; the Gravatar lookup described under comments; Amazon, when you follow a link there. There are no social embeds, no session recording, and no third-party fonts.

Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct or delete personal data an operator holds about you. In our case there is very little to exercise them against beyond a comment you have left, which we will delete on request. Requests concerning data Amazon or Google holds should go to them.

Children

This site is intended for people furnishing a living room and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, which includes children.
